Magics Beach Grill Information

Tucked along the scenic stretch of Ali‘i Drive, Magics Beach Grill feels like one of those spots you stumble upon and end up recommending to everyone afterward. The location alone does a lot of the work, sitting right across from Magic Sands Beach, where waves crash dramatically against the shore and the sunset seems almost staged. It’s the kind of place where you instinctively slow down, whether you’re just grabbing lunch or settling in for a long, relaxed dinner.

The menu leans into fresh, island-inspired comfort food with a creative twist. On my visit, the seafood stood out immediately-perfectly seared fish with a light, citrusy sauce that didn’t overpower the natural flavor. Their fish tacos are a popular pick in many reviews, and it’s easy to see why; they’re generously filled, well-balanced, and come with just enough crunch and tang. There’s also a good mix of options beyond seafood, from hearty burgers to lighter salads, making it accessible whether you’re craving something indulgent or trying to keep things simple.

What really adds to the experience is the atmosphere. It’s casual without feeling careless, with open-air seating that lets the ocean breeze roll through. You’ll hear a mix of conversation, laughter, and waves, creating a laid-back vibe that feels authentically Hawaiian rather than overly polished for tourists. It’s the kind of setting where flip-flops are perfectly acceptable, and nobody’s in a rush.

Service here tends to match that easygoing energy. Staff are friendly and attentive, often quick with recommendations if you’re unsure what to order. During busier hours, especially around sunset, things can slow down a bit, but it rarely feels frustrating-more like an invitation to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Many diners mention this in their reviews, noting that while it’s not ultra-fast service, it feels genuine and unforced.

Given its prime location and consistently solid menu, Magics Beach Grill manages to strike a balance between being a local favorite and a must-visit for travelers. Prices are reasonable for the area, especially considering the oceanfront setting, and portions are satisfying without being excessive. It’s one of those places where the food, the view, and the overall experience come together in a way that feels memorable without trying too hard.

What People's Say About Place

Probably the best beachfront restaurant in Kona, tried them all - Magics has the best food compared to the rest. If you're looking for the picturesque atmosphere, this should be your choice... but if you're a hardcore foodie, go inland a bit. Beachfront locations come with a price - same check, not-quite-as-good food. It's a trade off, imo. Regardless, if you want the waves crashing in your line of sight while dining in Kona, this is most definitely the place. Recommend the beef bulgogi and karaage fish appetizers and any steak for dinner - note steaks are cut thin though. Excellent service & view, good quality food. Edit: updated from 4 to 5 stars for one reason - we felt COMPLETELY unrushed in our experience. The restaurant biz is 25% food and 75% real estate. Not here. Mahalo, Magics. Will be back. Soon.

This restaurant has gorgeous views of the ocean and sunsets. Truly beautiful scenery. All of the seating is open air and you can see the sunset from all tables. My food was very good. The service is okay. We were given a water cup with someone’s lipstick on it which was pretty gross. Our server barely checked on us and after we asked for the check we waited a very long time before finally asking another server for our check. It’s very expensive but so is every other restaurant on the island so it’s to be expected.

We had such a great time at Magic Sands Grill. The food was amazing, and sitting on the patio with a view of the ocean and shoreline made it even better. It’s honestly one of the most beautiful places to eat in Kona, and the food is some of the best we tried during our trip. The staff were kind, respectful, and very professional, which made the whole experience feel easy and welcoming. Definitely a must-visit when you’re in Kona.

Great place to stop and grab a bite to eat. The food was fresh and the views were fantastic. Great views of the ocean and magic sands beach. Lots of surfers in the water the day we went. We ordered some brussel sprouts which were terrific. We also ordered the ceviche, it was just ok and needed a bit more substance to it. The drinks were delicious and we loved the staff and the service. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Absolutely fantastic spot! Local fare was amazing and we always get the Ulu (kind of like Hawaiian sweet potatoes). So fun sitting outside watching everyone boogie board too. Drinks were delicious and lots of options. Great happy hour! Fills up so get there early or make reservations! We go every time!

Stopped in after a long day in the water and we were super excited to have a delicious meal in a beautiful setting. The service was incredible our waitress was super attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was INCREDIBLE. The guys all had the steak and were impressed with how perfectly they were cooked. My hubby added the lobster tail and said it was great. My daughter had the chicken and said it was juicy and seasoned perfectly. I did the gorgonzola bacon gnocchi and some asparagus and thought both were cooked perfectly. We all left incredibly full but in a great way, the way you feel after enjoying clean ingredients cooked to perfection!

Highly recommend dinner or lunch at Magics for the food, atmosphere, and service! We had dinner reservations for the day we arrived, which was the perfect introduction to Hawaii. We had the Ahi Poke Tower, Lawai'a Trio, and risotto. The risotto was the best risotto we've had outside of Italy, and the rest was delicious. The view on the patio was spectacular, overlooking a beautiful beach. We also had lunch on the day we departed, splitting a perfectly cooked fish and chips. Our dinner server Jay and our lunch server (Emily?) were both super friendly and helpful. Parking was easy since the parking lot in front was reserved for the restaurant. 10/10 would recommend.

Fantastic spot next to Magic Sands beach. We had lunch and dinner at this spot during the week. Lunch wasn't too crowded but reservations are a good idea for dinner. My family's celiacs were extremely pleased with the gluten free fish and chips.
